The S.E.A. Drive!
I’ve been waiting a LOOONG time for this page. The Custer, basically, just went to FRICKIN’ warp speed, you guys! As you know, we here at the ThreeOneFive are huge Star Trek fans, so this should really come as no surprise. This moment has been coming since the first time we saw Danilo’s sketch of the Custer with those two big, beautiful thrusters bolted onto the bottom. And, thanks to Danilo’s masterful illustrations and Steven’s brilliant design, it has truly been worth the wait.
But that’s not all! What does the “S.E.A.” acronym in S.E.A. Drive stand for anyway? Well, because we love our readers but mostly because we are lazy, we are going to let YOU decide! That’s right, we’re leaving it up to you, the readers. Post your suggestions in the comments BELOW.
A “winner” will be chosen not only by how cool the name sounds, but also by how close it is to guessing what is ACTUALLY powering the Drive inside the Custer. Make no mistake, we know essentially what the S.E.A. Drive is and what is does, we are just leaving the actual name up for grabs.
What do you get for SUCCESSFULLY naming the S.E.A Drive? Nothing but GLORY.
Speaking of glory…NEXT WEEK’S page will be one of those pages that you look back at years later and say, “THAT’S where it all started!” In just 7 days, we set our SIGHTS on McGinty! Be there or be square. Make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow if you haven’t already.
If you can’t tell, I’m in a really good mood right now. Remember those SECRET projects I told you about last week? Well, one of them was a rollercoaster this week – full of ups and downs – but by week’s end everything seems to have come up roses (sly/late Valentine’s Day reference). I cannot wait to tell you all about it. Sorry, to be such a tease…actual news is coming SOON, I promise.
Welp, time to wrap ‘er up. BTW, the Sunday Bonus Lunch is pretty dang good this week, but don’t tell Evin I said so. And, as always, thanks for reading.
Anyways, till next week!

PS – Sorry for the outage this morning. We forgot to renew the domain, but we are safe from our forgetfulness for another year!
Great reveal: They are all wired. Smartphones in 1937. Custer’s charge on Subsilvania – not to be confused with Custer’s Last Stand – was indeed Deus Ex Nokia.
Panel four gives me a distinct NCIS Los Angeles vibe; that guy even does look somewhat similar to Eric. (And the captain is almost, if not quite, as creepy as Hetty.)
S.E.A stands for Superconducting Endothermal Accellerator, right?
Or maybe Sonic Excitation Apparatus?
Spectacular Evil Artifice? Saltwater Eruption Affluence? Savage Exercise Appropriation?
Spam Emergency Alert? (That joke’s on me!)
Welcome aboard, Timothy!
Yes, it is a little known fact that Doc created cell phone tech in the 1930s. Deus Ex Nokia, indeed.
Thanks for reading!
Apparently it’s also a little known fact that what “Former Naval Person” Winston Churchill established as “The Grand Alliance” – combining British intelligence and temerity with American firepower and boldness to fight off the forces of evil – was already working out fine a couple of years earlier.
Hmmmm, How about:

Whatever it is, it looks BADASS!
Saline Electromagnetic Adaptor?
Saline Electrolyte Arc?
Sonically Enhanced Acceleration
Each of the cylinders holds a focused cavity speaker, together they create a directional thrust in the pod. Works great in water, due the relatively high mass of water, only produces a gentle breeze in air, making the system useless for aircraft.
Welcome aboard, Miserchord!
Definitely impressed…not only a guess at the acronym, but a full explanation of how it works as well. Nicely done!
Super Effective Acceleration?
great page! love the look of the ‘headphones’ kid – keep up the good work!
Thanks, lutzad, good to hear from you. Glad you are still digging the Daredevils!

BLANKET REPLY TO ALL “S.E.A” NAME ENTRIES:
Lots of great/funny guesses with some definite contenders, so far. Keep then coming!
Thanks for playing!
whoa…wait… the Custer has frictionless pump-jet engines? Holy Red October Batman this changes their variables greatly…. though S.E.A. eh? Silent sEa Engine? Though I swear if this turns out to be a ruthven impeller system….
S- Somewhere
E- Else
A- Apparatus
I can’t come up with a good “SEA” acronym, but I am thinking of MHD: “Magneto-Hydrodynamic Drive“.
“An electric current is passed through seawater in the presence of an intense magnetic field, which interacts with the magnetic field of the current through the water. Functionally, the seawater is then the moving, conductive part of an electric motor. Pushing the water out the back accelerates the vehicle in the forward direction.”
It’s being actively tested, but they can’t get super-powerful accelleration…*yet*.
Saltwater Electromagnetic Acceleration Drive, perhaps?
The term magnetohydrodynamics didn’t appear in print until 1942, so it wouldn’t be used here.
You need the ions from the dissolved salt to permit good conduction of the electric current, and the surrounding cylinders could be superconducting electromagnets.
Blue glow is Cherenkov radiation?
@Miserchord (BTW, moderators, why is there only one level of reply available?)
>> … didn’t appear in print until 1942, so it wouldn’t be used here.
Hahaha, wonderful joke …
Originally, we did have multi-level replies, but once a comment thread had more than three replies the text boxes became super-narrow and it was obnoxious to read.
And, yes, just because some piece of tech or a term post-dates the 1930′s doesn’t mean it is off limits for the Daredevils. Why that is the case, is the real question, and will be answered when the time is right.
Supercavitating Electrodynamic Acceleration
Welcome aboard, nmenkus, and thanks for playing!
Hi there. First read-through, so I have no idea how it works out (though I am guessing the good guys win, in the end…), nor what S.E.A. drive stands for, officially.
But if I was to venture a guess, especially after reading nmenkus’ post, I would have to say it is the:
Supercalifragilistic Expi Alidocious drive…
I love it! I just watched Mary Poppins with the kiddos recently.
Welcome aboard, lake-wrangler!
