Many thanks to the entire WA Crew and especially Todd McElmurry (who is a card carrying member of the Loyal Order of Daredevilers) for his wonderful write-up. We’re honored and thrilled to be the featured comic of the month, and it is taking all the will power I have not to bust out a certain Sally Field quote right about now. And stay tuned, as an interview with all the ThreeOneFive boys and Danilo Guida will be showing up on Webcomic Alliance later this month. Good times.

TEETH!

They (more or less) are the reason why I NEVER swim in the ocean! Come to think of it, I know for a fact that Evin won’t step foot in the ocean, either. Not so sure about Dan, but I can say I have never witnessed him step into the ocean. So, yes, the UNDERWATER adventure strip you read week after week is brought to you by three dudes who are TERRIFIED of open water.

Seriously though, when a human being steps into the ocean they re-enter the food chain, and most certainly not at the top. Man’s dominion over the earth stops at the shoreline, and Doc, Joe, and the rest of the Daredevils are about to learn that the hard way…

Well, anyway…it’s our one-year anniversary!

That’s right, the Deep Dive Daredevils set sail a year ago today! I’m happy to report that, just as I said the day we launched, this is only the beginning. Just today I finished page-to-page breakdowns that will bring us beyond the second anniversary, and we have rough plots and storylines stretching out for YEARS…So, if YOU keep coming back for more Daredevils, WE’LL keep dropping pages on the blotter every Tuesday! Deal?

On that note, I’d also like to thank all of our incredible readers. You guys are THE BEST! But, on today’s anniversary, I’d like to especially thank the guys and gals who have been here from the beginning. You know who you are, and so do we. The entire Daredevils team couldn’t be more grateful for your continued support!

And, man, this week’s page is FREAKING awesome, right?! We couldn’t have planned the timing any better if we tried (and we didn’t, it just worked out this way). Nice to meet you, Abigail Singer. Welcome to the Deep Dive Daredevils…hope THEY survive the experience!

So, right, what’s going on at this point again? …Mystery abounds as the Daredevils dive into unknown darkness at the behest of a beautiful woman toting a veritable stockpile of weapons, you say? Yes, I’m sure this is just your plain-old, run-of-the-mill voyage to the BOTTOM of the OCEAN. Nothing to see here. What could possible go wrong?

Find out NEXT WEEK! As in, come back next week and you will TOTALLY find out what goes WRONG. It’s another instant CLASSIC, beautifully illustrated by Danilo Guida…so, hold onto your hats and BE HERE in 7 days! Speaking of that last panel, it should be noted/evident that with Pitch Black Day the tone has shifted. We’ll still deliver more fun and adventure then you can stand, but the nature of this story has necessitated a more adult sensibility. I think of it like the different rides at Disneyland. If Secret of the Beaufort Sea was akin to It’s A Small World, then Pitch Black Day is more like the Haunted Mansion with a bit of the raciness of Pirates of the Caribbean on the side. Basically, on the whole it’s still family friendly, but some parental guidance may be necessary because in the coming weeks this story is going to get INTENSE. Danger and death are stalking the Daredevils, and no one is safe! You have been WARNED…

Hey Daredevilers! It’s Dan, the not oft heard from member of the ThreeOneFive. But I’m breaking my silence today to bring word of our new members area!

Besides being one of the writers for the Daredevils, I also do all the coding for the website. When we launched almost a year ago it was my first experience with PHP and CSS. The two weeks leading up to the launch we frantically put together the site, barely holding it together with duct tape and spit. Since then I’ve learned some new tricks which has led us to the design we have today. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Evin picking up some tricks too, as he has done an excellent job of taking on the role of graphic designer. So now I’m happy to announce the first part of the Deep Dive Daredevils site that the two of us have designed from the ground up…

And, the Cajun Caper is a wrap!

The second Deep Dive Daredevils story is in the books, and the first building block of an upcoming MEGA-ARC came along for the ride. I’ll let the content of this page speak for itself, but I’m sure those reading closely have found some very interesting things to chew on. Indeed, the mysteries surrounding Captain Custer are deepening, folks…

Speaking of the Captain, one of the things I am most proud of is the fact that when all is said and done the Cajun Caper is about him, yet he doesn’t actually appear anywhere in the story. Sure, you see his picture at the end and get to read his letter to Mona, but the Captain, himself, is nowhere to be found. It’s been tricky finding ways to include the Captain in the stories in a meaningful way. Just imagine what Star Trek would be like if Captain Kirk could never leave the bridge. But, in the end, I believe Captain Custer’s limitations make him all the more interesting. He is the Captain. He is the boat. And, don’t ever forget that, despite a lack of “screen-time”, he is the central, most pivotal figure in the Deep Dive Daredevils universe!

I’d like to take a moment to sincerely thank Smilton for doing such a wonderful job on these last ten pages. I can imagine it isn’t easy to step into an established story and not miss a beat, and he did just that. Also, if this page isn’t proof that Fonografiks’ letters are a crucial ingredient in the success of Deep Dive Daredevils then I don’t know what is. Many thanks, fellas!

OK, on to NEXT WEEK…
