Now THAT…

…is one hell of a HANGOVER remedy! I can’t tell you how many times in my misbegotten youth that I sure could have used a good venting of the kidneys and a shot of adrenaline to help me make it into work on time the morning after a particularly rough night. I’m sure a good many of you Daredevilers out there can relate.

Seriously though, for a shockingly long time now Dan, Evin, and I have been talking about what would happen if the Captain ever got really, REALLY drunk, and what the procedure would be for getting him back in working order, for lack of a better phrase. Venting his kidneys was something that came up pretty early in our discussions, and some parties (I won’t name who) actually wanted to show (i.e. make Danilo draw) his kidneys being vented. BLECH. Luckily for you, and more so for Danilo, cooler heads prevailed and we ultimately decided to leave it up to your imagination. (Yes, this is really the type of stuff that we spend out valuable time arguing about.)

Oh yeah, did I mention that the Daredevils are under attack by a NAZI SUB?! I know for a fact that some of you have been waiting for just this type of development for some time now. Well, never let it be said that we do not aim to please!

But, ask yourself, how is the Custer supposed to fight back without a crew? Be here NEXT WEEK when we introduce the All-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT Deep Dive Daredevils. Nuff said!

In other news, by the time this blog goes live ALL of the DDD Kickstarter rewards will be in the mail and on their way to our backers. So, if you’re a backer, rejoice, the wait to get your hands on Deep Dive Daredevils No. 1 is nearly over!

Anyways, till next week!

And, the Cajun Caper is a wrap!

The second Deep Dive Daredevils story is in the books, and the first building block of an upcoming MEGA-ARC came along for the ride. I’ll let the content of this page speak for itself, but I’m sure those reading closely have found some very interesting things to chew on. Indeed, the mysteries surrounding Captain Custer are deepening, folks…

Speaking of the Captain, one of the things I am most proud of is the fact that when all is said and done the Cajun Caper is about him, yet he doesn’t actually appear anywhere in the story. Sure, you see his picture at the end and get to read his letter to Mona, but the Captain, himself, is nowhere to be found. It’s been tricky finding ways to include the Captain in the stories in a meaningful way. Just imagine what Star Trek would be like if Captain Kirk could never leave the bridge. But, in the end, I believe Captain Custer’s limitations make him all the more interesting. He is the Captain. He is the boat. And, don’t ever forget that, despite a lack of “screen-time”, he is the central, most pivotal figure in the Deep Dive Daredevils universe!

I’d like to take a moment to sincerely thank Smilton for doing such a wonderful job on these last ten pages. I can imagine it isn’t easy to step into an established story and not miss a beat, and he did just that. Also, if this page isn’t proof that Fonografiks’ letters are a crucial ingredient in the success of Deep Dive Daredevils then I don’t know what is. Many thanks, fellas!

OK, on to NEXT WEEK…

Get excited…because we are debuting an all-new members area on the site. That’s right in just 7 days you can finally join THE LOYAL ORDER of DAREDEVILERS! Don’t worry, it’s FREE, and includes access to all sorts of members-only content and an OFFICIAL Deep Dive Daredevils DECODER RING! You heard me right, and yes, it is going to be cool…

Just how cool, you ask? Welp, the first bit of members only content will be none other than the first page of PITCH BLACK DAY; a full two weeks before it premiers on the blotter, April 2nd. Danilo returns!! So, yeah, make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow.

Oh, and Dan will be making his first appearance here on the blog next week to fill you in on all the particulars and whatnot. Meanwhile, I’ll be sipping Mai Tais and enjoying the week off. Good Times.

As always, try like hell to make sense of Evin’s garbled brain transmissions, which arrive in the form of the Sunday Bonus Lunch.

Thanks again for reading…

Anyways, till next week!

This is a man’s world, but it wouldn’t mean nothing without a woman…

Mona and her girls take center stage this week and save the Daredevils’ bacon! I mean, really what chance did Sal and his men have? Grudges and guns are no match for the wiles of a beautiful woman, especially when that woman is – ahem – a professional. But, then again, it’s not like you should feel bad for Sal and his boys, which brings me to my next point…

With a FINAL SCORE of 2-1, it is time to officially declare the Gangsters the winners of the epic bout with the Daredevils! Wait, what?

Yep, that’s right. While the Daredevils may have made a clean getaway, the Gangsters ended their night in the company of beautiful women, and on the house no less. Just take a good long look at panel 3 and tell me that isn’t a win. Sometimes crime does pay.

But, forget all that because NEXT WEEK’s page is going to BLOW YOUR MINDS! Mark my words and mark your calendars because the final page of the CAJUN CAPER is a GAME CHANGER! In just 7 days, Mona opens the Captain’s letter, and once she does what you (think) you know about the Captain will be changed forever. BIG things are coming, Daredevilers, and this is where it starts! Make sure to RSS, Like or Follow. Do it. Trust me.

OK, on to some schedule housekeeping…

Next week is the final page of the Cajun Caper. Like I said, don’t miss it.

Tuesday March 19th is a break week. But, fear not, we will be debuting a fantastic new feature for the website, and a glorious poster drawn by Danilo. More details next week.

Tuesday March 26th is the debut of the cover for THE PITCH BLACK DAY!

And, on Tuesday April 2nd Page 1 of THE PITCH BLACK DAY hits, and Danilo returns to his regular art duties.

Welp, time to skedaddle…don’t forget to check out the Sunday Bonus Lunch for exclusive Daredevils content you can’t find anywhere else. And, thanks again for reading!

The letter’s recipient is revealed!

Daredevilers, meet Mona Willows. Let me assure you she’s a mighty special lady, but I’m betting that you’re already hip to that, considering Captain Custer tasked his crew with hand delivering a letter to her. I mean, c’mon Captain, haven’t you ever heard of a mailbox? What’s so important that a mailman just won’t do? Just who exactly is Mona to the Captain and vise versa? Those answers and more (oh so much more, trust me) are right around the corner…

But, first, the Daredevils, Mona, and her girls have to deal with one mega-pissed gangster! NEXT WEEK, prepare yourself for the FINAL RECKONING of Wooden-Nickel Sal. It’s all come down to this. One way or the other, the feud between the Daredevils and the gangster ends in just 7 days! Make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow unless you hate the resolution of plotlines.

So, we’ve met Mona, but who is she and where did she come from? In the story, that’s all still TOP SECRET, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reveal her real life inspiration. Well, have you ever heard of the musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas? If you haven’t click here and you’ll catch the general drift. The lead character in the musical is named Mona and is played by Dolly Parton. The movie itself is kind-of hokey by today’s standards, but I would contend that it is just about the most fun, heartwarming movie about a whorehouse you’re ever going to find. And, the songs are good too.

Welp, this week’s Sunday Bonus Lunch is an especially good installment, including your first look at Danilo’s art from an upcoming page of PITCH BLACK DAY. Evin’s also got a Twin Peaks motif running through the blog, as well, which is definitely a plus in my book, at least.

Thanks again for reading and your continued support! You guys and gals are the best.

Anyways, till next week!

Hello Ladies!

So, the Daredevils have finally made it to 126 CONTI, and it turns out to be a house of ill repute. Hopefully, like Joe, you did not see this turn of events coming. Admittedly, we did muddy the water a bit by throwing in bits of speculation about the letter’s recipient – descriptors like “Gnarly Ol’ Cuss” and “Old-Timey Pirate” don’t generally lead to thoughts of beautiful women in various states of undress. Its called misdirection, folks, and we can be mean like that sometimes. Ha!

In addition to surprise, hopefully you are as intrigued and exited as the full-grown male Daredevils at finding themselves among these ladies of the night. This is the kick-off to the final act of the CAJUN CAPER – only THREE more pages to go, and I guarantee an ending filled with emotion and a mystery/revelation that make you re-evaluate everything you (think you) know about the Deep Dive Daredevils!

NEXT WEEK, the recipient of The Captain’s letter is FINALLY revealed! Who is M. WILLOWS, and what is their connection to Captain Custer? Find out in just 7 days! Also, don’t forget about Wooden-Nickel Sal! He can’t be far behind, right? RIGHT!? No matter how slice it NEXT WEEK’s page is a DOOZY! Make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow unless you want to risk missing out on this rollercoaster ride to the conclusion of the Cajun Caper!

And, with Cajun Caper’s ending just over the horizon, I can’t help but get exited for the start of PITCH BLACK DAY. Danilo’s artwork is hitting my inbox almost daily, and no guff, he is taking it to the next level, Daredevilers! You guys and gals are in for treat. I can’t wait until Danilo’s pages start hitting the blotter again…

To see sneak peeks at upcoming Pitch Black Day pages and concept art, keep your eyes glued to the Sunday Bonus Lunch.

It’s a hot time in the old town tonight!

The conflict between the gangster and the Daredevils has reached its boiling point. Bullets are flying, bystanders are beating feet, and the Daredevils are heading for the hills – it’s all out war on the streets of New Orleans!

Y’ know who I feel bad for? The guy in the last panel, down on his hands and knees and right in the line of fire. I mean, one minute there he is enjoying the night air, selling his wares on the sidewalk, and the next thing you know he’s ducking, covering and kissing his butt goodbye. Don’t worry, he makes it out alive and unharmed (How do I know that? I’m one of the writers, that’s how.), but, man, there is no doubt he is going to need a clean pair of underwear and a stiff drink before the night is out.

Also, the Captain’s letter makes its triumphant return this week! I bet some of you had forgotten about the letter, or thought that maybe we had forgotten about it. Well, no such luck. The letter is back, and it is going to be a HUGE factor for the duration of the story. In fact…

NEXT WEEK the Daredevils arrive at 126 CONTI (the address on the letter) with the Gangsters hot on their heels…will they find safe harbor, or is even more trouble waiting in the wings? Find out in just 7 days, as the plot gets kicked into high gear! Make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow if you don’t want to miss out on the letter’s special delivery.

And, hey what do ya know? Evin put on his big boy pants and manages to hack out one heck of a Sunday Bonus Lunch this week. It’s light on psychotic ramblings and heavy on preview art for the upcoming DDD adventure, PITCH BLACK DAY. So make with the clicks now and meet a stunning new addition to the cast – the mysterious and beautiful, Abigail!

FINALLY, the Daredevils strike back! But, hopefully, in a way you guys weren’t expecting. You can always count on Doc to present an unexpected, yet perfect, solution to a problem. Here at ThreeOneFive Headquarters we’ve taken to calling Doc’s device Mezmorizmo. It’s based off of a real-life hypnosis wheel, which was popular in the first decades of the 20th century. Of course, Doc’s taken the concept of the hypnosis wheel to the next level, but would you expect any less from the world’s preeminent man of science? No, no you wouldn’t.

So, for those keeping score at home, Doc’s last minute save has tied it up – Gangsters 1, Daredevils 1. It’s anybody’s game at this point, and neither team appears ready to back down or give up the ghost. Buckle up, sports fans, this one’s gonna be a fight to the finish!

NEXT WEEK, Sal and his men bust out the MEAT CHOPPERS, and that means bad news for the Daredevils! Have our courageous crewman bitten off more that they can chew? I for one am betting that they have. DIRE consequences await our heroes in just 7 days! If you love action, make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow.

In other news, the, literally, dozens of loyal Sunday Bonus Lunch readers have surely noticed that this past Sunday came and went without a new installment of Evin’s nonsensical ranting. Well, he does have a legit excuse…Evin, Dan and I spent Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas! The weekend was so jam-packed with gambling, drinking, and debauchery that Evin just plain forgot to update the blog. He has been punished accordingly, and it won’t happen again…until the next Super Bowl weekend.

Welp, I myself am a bit hung-over, and feel a lot like I imagine McGinty and Deveraux are feeling at this point in the story – rode hard and put away wet. So, adios muchachos, it’s time to sleep this one off…

Anyways, till next week!

Welcome to the Cajun Caper, Joe – hope you survive the experience!

I’m sure you guys figured it wouldn’t be long until everyone’s favorite pre-pubescent First Mate made his way onto the stage. But, I’m guessing you thought his grand entrance would have been a little more…well, grand. Somewhere, in an alternate universe, the script for the page reads…

“Joe enters the gangster’s hideout, and swashbuckling action ensues! One-by-one Joe takes down Sal’s men, using his small stature and quickness to his advantage. Then he turns his attention to Sal, and with one, epic right-hand to the jaw the nefarious gangster is out for the count!”

Unfortunately, for Joe (and McGinty and Deveraux) that’s not the way things went down in this universe. Nope, little Joe ran into a whole mess of big boy trouble, and is in WAY over his head!

Or is he…?

In just 7 DAYS find out Joe’s FINAL FATE! Has our pint-sized pirate’s luck finally run out, or does he still have an ace up his sleeve? And, where the heck is Cup? Aren’t those two ALWAYS together? Answers are a’ coming NEXT WEEK! Make sure to RSS, Like, or follow, Joe’s life may just depend on it…

Welp, Evin has not received nearly enough hate mail over at the Sunday Bonus Lunch to warrant showing off any previews of Danilo’s work on the upcoming Deep Dive Daredevils epic, Pitch Black Day. But, maybe, it was too much to ask for you guy to subject yourselves to Evin’s incoherent ramblings for the chance to see some sweet sneak peeks. I read the Sunday Bonus Lunch, but only because it’s like my job, man. So, let’s try this, Daredevilers – if you want to see some of Danilo’s work (in progress) on the next Daredevils story let us know in comments this week. Fire away!

Anyways, till next week!

Gasp!

I guess Deveraux didn’t get the memo explaining that Deep Dive Daredevils is an all-ages comic. Apologies to all our French-speaking readers out there, and let me assure you that it won’t happen again…right, Deveraux?

Anyway, I gotta say, writing the dialogue for Deveraux and McGinty is just a blast, and I hope you guys are having as much fun reading it as we are writing it. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that Smilton just totally nailed their interaction on this page. It’s clear that these guys are like brothers, and even under duress they can’t help pushing each other’s buttons. Good times.

NEXT WEEK, find out WHO’S at the door, and WHY McGinty and Deveraux would rather take their chances with ruthless gangsters then the likes of them. Be here in 7 days for a page that goes out with a BANG! Make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow to find out who’s behind door number one…

Pitch Black Day update: Danilo’s penciled pages are rolling in on a daily basis, and man-oh-man I couldn’t be more excited with the way our next story is shaping up. Seriously, prepare yourselves for some face-meltingly great art, and be afraid of the dark, my friends. Be very afraid.

In other news, it’s funny that today is the day we posted a curse word on Deep Dive Daredevils because we have another comic being released online TODAY the has lots of them. That’s right, the first lady of vulgarity is back! You can now read BABY GIRL’s first adventure, Lost Treasure of the Afrika Korps, for FREE online at Challenger Comics! Be warned! BABY GIRL is naughty fun intended ONLY for mature dudes and dudettes.

Many thanks to Ryan Ferrier, the proprietor of Challenger Comics, for letting us in on the great thing he’s got going there. Read Challenger!

Welp, that about wraps ‘er up for this week. Make sure to read the Sunday Bonus Lunch, and then write Evin hate mail until he breaks down and shows you some sneaks peeks of Danilo’s work on Pitch Black Day. I’m pretty sure that’ll work…

Anyways, till next week!

FIGHT!

For those keeping score at home, this is, in fact, the first Daredevil’s page to feature fisticuffs. In a story starring McGinty, Deveraux, and heaping helping of liquid courage it was just a matter of time before things got out of hand! It’s just too bad for our carousing crewman that Wooden-Nickel Sal brought bats (and goons) to a fistfight. Alas, even expert pugilists like McGinty and Deveraux couldn’t overcome the odds stacked against them.

So, as it stand now – Wooden-Nickel Sal 1, The Daredevils 0. We’ll keep a running tally as the story continues and see if The Daredevils can even things up, or even take the lead! For the latest scoring updates make sure to RSS, Like, or Follow.

NEXT WEEK Wooden-Nickel Sal continues to make the Daredevils PAY! And, what hope do McGinty and Deveraux have of delivering The Captain’s letter while in the clutches of ruthless gangsters? The action and intrigue continues in just 7 days!

As I mentioned last week, we are currently in the process of giving the site a facelift. This week, eagle-eyed Daredevilers will notice that the sidebars to the left and the right of the blog have been upgraded. Evin and Dan have re-imagined the sidebars in the style of the wacky advertisements that were such a staple of old-school comics. Our goal is for those who stop by the site to be transported back in time to the Golden Age – to smell the musty, aged newsprint and feel the cheap ink rub off on their fingers!

With that in mind, I’m sure you guys have noticed that since the launch we’ve NEVER run a single advertisement on the site. We feel that doing so would shatter the ambiance we’ve created and lessen the overall Deep Dive Daredevils experience. So, to help us keep the site ad free, please consider donating. All donations will be used to help offset the production costs of the comic itself, and all the costs that go along with maintaining the site. Thanks!

Welp, Evin finally got off his butt and started blogging again so make sure to check out the first 2013 edition of the Sunday Bonus Lunch.

Anyways, till next week!
