Scars.
Just in case it wasn’t clear from the first two pages, a big driving force behind the events of End(s) of the Earth(s) is going to be the emotional fallout from the events of Pitch Black Day –scars left behind from the Daredevils’ confrontation with the (former) King of Subsylvania. All of the main players are out of sorts, not themselves, and that is going to make for some interesting DRAMA that we haven’t seen before in DDD. Whereas Secret of the Beaufort Sea and Pitch Black Day were heavily plot driven, this new story is going to be primarily driven by the characters. Here’s hoping you guys/gals dig the change of pace.
DDD TRIVIA: Completely by accident or perhaps subliminally, this page ends in the EXACT same way as page 3 of Secret of the Beaufort Sea – with a mysterious hand grabbing Doc’s shoulder and cutting him off mid-sentence. It’s either just a funny coincidence or our writing ticks are really starting to show.
Anyway, be here NEXT WEEK to witness a Daredevil make a SHOCKING decision that will shake his fellow crewman to the core! Trust me, it will be a moment that you simply CANNOT miss. In just 7 days, prepare yourself for the UNTHINKABLE.
However, if you join the MAILING LIST (on the top of the left sidebar, underneath the radio tower) you can be among the first to know what lies ahead when we send out the script for the upcoming page to subscribers this week. That’s right, EXCLUSIVE DDD content will be delivered directly to your inbox EVERY Friday – all you have to do is SIGN UP NOW!
Welp, that about wraps it up for this week. Things are still chugging along nice and steady behind the scenes as we get closer and closer to our big announcement. Won’t be long now…
Anyways, till next week!
-Matt-
Things are still chugging along nice … as we get closer … to our big announcement. I bet things are also starting to materialize?
I was really happy when the pre-lettered image of this page landed in my inbox. Thank you. I also thought it was the best possible page for a preview: The image gave me the situation, and really great atmosphere, but it did not spoil anything because no word on the page is redundant.
When it comes to previews, either page image or script, I feel rather ambivalent. While it’s nice to be able to take a peek, there’s also the wish to get the full impact of the page all at once. Of course I could just not open the links you send out until after I’ve seen the page, but I’d rather trust your judgement on which pages are suited for either form of preview.
Yeah, we’ve debated about the spoiler aspect of our exclusive mailing list content amongst ourselves quite a bit, as well.
We figure that those of you who have signed up for the mailing list might like to be privy to “inside info” from time-to-time – to know what is coming before everyone else.
But, your comment has given me a good idea. From now on, if the bonus content contains tangible spoilers for the next update we’ll label it as such so you can make the decision to click on the link when it arrives, or as you suggested, wait until after Tuesday’s update.
Sound good?
Sound perfect!
Poor Deveraux being forced to keep company with an abundant supply of beautiful Polynesian women…
I’m sure the good Pastor will be busy at the confessional after this trip, not to mention the doctor will hopefully not need to supply antibiotics to the crew and natives. I’m sure he was well aware of the potential uses of penicillin before it became commercially available.
I wish the good Captain could better join the crew ashore…
As for the crew’s recovery, Joe and Doc are surrounded by good friends and shipmates, and have the added benefit of Man’s best friend. I’m sure they will bounce back in time.
Oh, we all know that dogs are man’s best friends, but are men dog’s best friends?
As I believe I’ve stated before, Doc always has a plentiful stock of antibiotics…especially after shore leave.
Interesting hair color on the kids, and that one woman, though. McGinty’s family, perhaps? Or, just the results of his time on the island?
the cheif there did say he ‘visited many times” and performed “great feats” so kids probably are not out of the question.
Great eye, Stan! Those kids sporting the red hair are indeed intended to be the result of McGinty’s frequent stops on the island.
How did I miss that?
Wait a second, the good Chaplin is also sporting some reddish hair, call Maury Povich!
I can just see intro now:
“They were borne on a secret Pacific Island, the children of multiple native beauties, who they want their due child support. Their father (or is it fathers) were submarine sea faring mercinary rogues, with questionable backgrounds.
On todays episode we will see just how close the crew and these natives islanders were, and just who needed the ships penicilin supply and confessional booth the most.
DDD Just 1 port of call ahead of the next Paternity Suit…”
Congrats, T. Gatto. That has got to be your best comment ever. Ha!
Speaking of “how did I miss that?” It seems all you guys/gals missed something pretty interesting on the page previous…or at least none of you posted about it…
If you are talking about the mysterious disembodied transmission that tracked and scanned Captain Custer, I was wondering about that, but I got side tracked.
It really is all your fault 315, for putting so many interesting things in the pages, if you would just make things more lame, and uninteresting they would be way more easy to follow…
On the disembodied transmission: Well, you’re going to have too keep wondering because that is one of the ongoing mysteries in this story.
But, actually, I was referring to something else…a visual that sets in motion the primary mystery in End(s) of the Earth(s).
So, yeah, even more interesting things…guilty as charged.
Oh you mean the overgrown piece of machinery near the coast in the last page? It’s either that or the fact that the natives probably would not have the know how to build a dock strong or long enough to support a ship the size of the custer without guidance.
Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. It is indeed the overgrown piece of machinery that I was referring to.
That ? It’s a pump for the underground fuel bunker. Not worth mentioning.
What is it with the dramatic change in drawing style?
Well, after finishing the epic undertaking that was Pitch Black Day Danilo is taking a break/finishing up other commitments before returning to the pages of DDD in 2015.
In the meantime, Smilton (who also illustrated The Cajun Caper) has taken up art duties on End(s) of the Earth(s).
