Captain Custer is here…finally!
I’m going to let Danilo’s fantastic illustration of the Captain and the enigmatic captions speak for themselves, but I will say that this is my favorite Daredevils page, so far!
Notice I said, so far…
We’ve got two pages left in Chapter Two, and NO GUFF; we are building to an even bigger climax. So, keep your Internet dials tuned to the Deep Dive Daredevils and hold on tight folks, thar be a bumpy ride ahead! Be here NEXT WEEK, where the enormity of the Daredevils’ predicament becomes painfully clear. RSS it!
OK, on to some housekeeping. As I mentioned, Chapter Two ends in just two weeks, and after that we will take a one-week break before the sense-shattering kick-off of Chapter Three. During the break week we will be showing off an exclusive illustration, and offering a grab bag of other goodies for the first time. It’s kind-of a big deal. You’ll be a sad panda if you miss out.
Also, don’t forget to vote for us, like us, follow us, and visit our blog every Sunday for some tasty Bonus Lunch.
One last thing, I would be remiss if I didn’t pass on a commendation from the Captain himself to a very astute reader who pretty much called this page’s reveal two weeks early.
TKG wrote on May 30th: “So is the captain wired into the ship (prior episodes seem to hint this is the case.) literally and thus when it’s damaged he feels it i.e. a feedback loop? Does that also effectively make it an extension of his own body?”
At the time, the information was classified, but now we can all tip our hats and pat TKG on the back. Good show, sir!
Anyways, till next week!

Holy merciful crap! This explains a lot and yet answers very few of the questions. I’m sure the captain will be ok…but d*** what a mess.
Ah, the man of the hour!
This is JUST the reaction we were going for – answering a few questions and creating some more to take their place.
problem now is… That whale is still outside! Even though the captain situation looks like a dire one, let us not forget about Ze Whale!
Well, there’s plenty of “outside” to go around and only one brain wired into the ship. If the doc doesn’t throw a circuit breaker soon, he’ll be jury rigging a manyal control interface out of overripe smalahove, with a deadline set by an angry whale.
Yep, guys, the Daredevil’s problems just keep multiplying. The Captain is out of commission, and, yes, it would be a grave mistake to forget about “Ze Whale!” But, there’s also another situation that could end VERY badly…
what, Joe? Nah, Cup went after him, so he’s in good hands… Well, good paws
rrrrrr — RUFF!
Holy Whale Parts, Batman!!!!
Sweet!
Does the ship time travel, or is it just WAY ahead of it’s time?
Thinking in terms of “time” will only illuminate the narrowest view of the truth when searching for answers to the Custer’s mysteries.
Unfortunately, for now I cannot say anymore, as the information you seek is HIGHLY classified and available only to the command crew.
I’m strongly reminded of George Martin’s ‘Nightfliers’ and a little of McCaffrey’s XH834 series with this… but the tech for that wasn’t around until well after WW2, at least in our front world. Of course, the availabilities in either world based on what Germany, Britain, USA, Japan, and Russia had can be quite flexible across the time-tracks…
Obviously we’re in an alternate reality parallel universe where the XH834 series was available post and pre all World Wars. Duh.
William Shatner has really let himself go…
