Custer and Doc…
TOGETHER AGAIN — for the VERY FIRST TIME! Does anybody remember the issue of Uncanny X-Men with that tagline? Well, I remember it well, for it left a searing mark (in a good way) on my 12 year-old brain when it came out in 1990. It was issue #268, written by Chris Claremont and penciled by Jim Lee – we’re taking about primetime, a-number-one, X-Meny goodness here, folks. It’s a flashback issue, which reveals the first meeting between Captain America, Wolverine, and Black Widow way back in 1941.
If you are at all inclined to check it out (or know it well), you’ll find some nice parallels between it and what we are doing now with DDD, and more importantly you’ll get the enjoyment of reading a damn fine comic.
Speaking of, be here NEXT WEEK for another pretty frickin’ darn good comic in the indelible Deep Dive Daredevils’ style!
Till next time!

Epic burn! Doc lays the smack down! And yet, he winds up working for Cyborg!Custer somehow; that should be a tale for the ages! Also, sparing FrankenHitler is all very noble, but if Doc recognises that swastika, it’s also very stupid. Only time will tell…
Yes, certainly not the most auspicious of first meetings for two men that we know will someday be shipmates.
And, it looks like Doc’s pacifism went over like a lead balloon. Will it come back to bite him? As you said, only time will tell.
Doc is seldom wrong, but I must admit that my first instinct would be to smash Franken-Hitler’s brains out with the biggest rock I could lay my hands on.
I’m also curious as to what skeletons Doc has in his closet, since no one is perfect. If he is in fact saintly, then the aftermath of “Pitch Black” must have really torn him up…
Note to self: you don’t want to be a FrankenHitler around T. Gatto. Ouch!
You’ve hit on something vis-à-vis Doc and the fallout from Pitch Black Day that will be playing out in the not to distant future. The “young” Doc you are meeting now is, in fact, the man at his most pure.
Rock? Not lethal enough, but a good start. He looks like he can withstand serious damage (scarred much, Herr Hitler?), but I bet taking his head, a’la Highlander style, would do more than slow him down. As for all life being sacred, I agree on principle, but when you go around murdering people you defile that sanctity and render your life forfeit. I don’t think anyone (aside from the Giga Reich) would argue in favor of Hitlerstein’s continued existence after the atrocities he’s committed.
Seriousness aside, I’m looking forward to the next page/issue of the adventure!
I rest my case.

Bat-Maniacs of the world, unite!
wouldn’t it be a riot if it turned out the doc in panel five wasn’t actually talking to Custer at all but the blemish in the background of this site that he seems to be pointing at partially.
Hilarious, but it would break the fourth wall, which would be inconsistent for this comic.
