Originally, we did have multi-level replies, but once a comment thread had more than three replies the text boxes became super-narrow and it was obnoxious to read.

And, yes, just because some piece of tech or a term post-dates the 1930′s doesn’t mean it is off limits for the Daredevils. Why that is the case, is the real question, and will be answered when the time is right.

The term magnetohydrodynamics didn’t appear in print until 1942, so it wouldn’t be used here.

You need the ions from the dissolved salt to permit good conduction of the electric current, and the surrounding cylinders could be superconducting electromagnets.

I can’t come up with a good “SEA” acronym, but I am thinking of MHD: “Magneto-Hydrodynamic Drive“.

“An electric current is passed through seawater in the presence of an intense magnetic field, which interacts with the magnetic field of the current through the water. Functionally, the seawater is then the moving, conductive part of an electric motor. Pushing the water out the back accelerates the vehicle in the forward direction.”

It’s being actively tested, but they can’t get super-powerful accelleration…*yet*.
