Even the page says that they are worthwhile when used properly. I say "trope away" and have fun with it! Besides, if you're going to have a comic mirroring/invoking a specific style of comic from the past, you -should- be using the same tropes they used, otherwise it's not doing a very good job of emulating its precursor. :) Oh, and because I'm a horrible person, I just have to say: "Different tropes for different folks." :D Why would you want to escape the tropes?
