The page would not grab the attention of an uniformed reader, but in the context of the comic it works very differently. Think about watching the first scene of a crime show episode: Often they would be incredibly boring to watch, if you weren't so eager to find out if that guy is going to be the killer, the victim, or the one who finds the body.
